The Student Recruitment & Retention Center stands for educational equity. Our student-run and student-initiated programs foster holistic academic and personal development while raising political and cultural awareness thus empowering students to act as dynamic leaders for their communities. We accept the challenge of creating a society that provides a quality, culturally sensitive, comprehensive education for students of all backgrounds. Furthermore, we are dedicated to creating an environment of collective action that will work to ensure the perpetuity of academic achievement among future generations.

The SRRC story begins in 1998 when a group of concerned students attended a UCLA conference which inspired them to develop a student-initiated and run center here at UCD. The students formed committees with representatives from the Associated Students of UCD (ASUCD) and Graduate Student Association (GSA), as well as members of the African American, Chican@/Latin@, Filipin@, Native American, and Southeast Asian communities. Together the committee worked to incorporate their plans for a center into the Facilities and Campus Enhancement Initiative (FACE). The initiative, which passed, provides a portion of student fees to cover the development and function of the SRRC. By February of 2000, the SRRC was on its way to becoming an active and influential part of the university.

The SRRC family is a group of diverse students who come to serve their communities, but also dedicate themselves to journeying together toward collective holistic empowerment. Some of the ways that we do this are:
Peer Mentoring – All SRRC staff are trained academic mentors who know the “Keys to Success” and strive to help students facing academic difficulty get back on a path toward graduation.
Study support – The Studypalooza is THE place to come study! We offer tutors, TA office hours, workshops, group and quiet study spaces, and, of course, snacks!
Leadership Retreats – Several communities housed within the SRRC host yearly retreats designed to cultivate a new generation of campus leaders.
Real Life Planning – As students of color, we understand how challenging it can be to just make it through the university. We also know how important it is for us to prepare for success after our undergraduate careers, so we offer workshops and mentoring to assist in planning for life in the “real world.”
K-12 Enrichment – Together with our family of volunteers, we provide a variety of college academic preparation, leadership training, and cultural enrichment activities for non-college tracked youth.
Funding Opportunities – The SRRC offers two sources of funding to the campus community who provide services/activities that are complimentary to our mission and goals of educational equity. The $O$ Fund is available for groups who are working to strengthen the retention of historically socio-economically disadvantaged groups. $IAP Fund provides support for groups seeking to provide academic preparation services for high school and community college students.

The staff at the Student Recruitment and Retention Center consists of several dedicated UC Davis students acting as directors and coordinators, who are managed by two supervisors.
