Southeast Asians Furthering EducationSAFE HistorySoutheast Asians Furthering Educations (SAFE) is apart of the Student Recruitment and Retention Center (SRRC) on the UC Davis campus. Brought by the Facilities And Enhancements (FACE) Initiative and the creativity, vision, and determination of students committed to outreach and retention, the SAFE program is continuing into it's sixth year of community service. SAFE aims to empower Southeast Asian students to actively pursue higher eduation, retain Southeast Asian students currently enrolled in institution of higher learning, and engage parents in the educational process. Through recruitment, retention, resource and referral services, SAFE will empower students to successfully enter into and graduate from institutions of higher education. Students who want to gain direct experience working with the Southeast Asian community and staff at the SRRC. If you are interested in volunteering or interning for academic units or transcript notation, please come visit us! SAFE PhilosophyRetention Retention services will involve students in their academic studies so that they may successfully complete their college education. Retention Strategies Workshops: Provide safe, friendly, and comfortable environments for students to study and learn individually or collectively. Every session is facilitated by a coordinator. The Southeast Asian Leadership Retreat: Is our annual retreat addressing issues of identity, culture, and leadership within the community. The Southeast Asian Caucus: Works to unite the diverse Southeast Asian community by providing a space for dialogue. Recruitment SAFE's recruitment program serves as a vital, meaningful link between the Southeast Asian community and the University to encourage the pursuit of higher education. The Academic Outreach and Enrichment Projects: Serve to increase Southeast Asian high school students' awareness of opportunities in education adn to motivate them to build a more holistic relationship with college students through academic adn enrichment activities such as weekly after school tutoring, mentoring, and workshops. The Middle School Projects: Seeks to develop an outreach program for Southeast Asian middle school students by researching ways to empower students to become critically aware of the competitively eligible for higher education. In its third year, the middle school project will seek to expand and implement a program similar to the high school outreach program which includes weekly after school tutoring, mentoring and workshops that touch on the issues of biculturalism, leadership, and teambuilding. Resource SAFE will be responsive to the concerns and needs of the Southeast Asian community. To help accomplish the goal, SAFE mantains reference materials on UC Davis, high education, and the Southeast Asian community.
